Board of Directors - Donald S. Frazier, Ph.D.

Born in Big Spring, Texas, in 1965, Donald S. Frazier graduated with his Ph.D. from Texas Christian University in 1992. He is a professor in the history department of McMurry University. Dr. Frazier has authored two books including Blood and Treasure: Confederate Empire in the Southwest and Cottonclads! The Battle of Galveston and the Defense of the Texas Coast. He is also the general editor of The U.S. and Mexico at War: Nineteenth Century Expansionism and Conflict, published in 1998. He has been in three historical documentaries including a radio program for National Public Radio and on television with The History Channel. He is a Fellow of the Philosophical Society of Texas. He is currently writing two books: a brief military history of the U.S. Civil War, and a biographical treatment of Tom Green.

Dr. Frazier is a relative newcomer to the tourism industry. Besides service on the board of the Abilene Visitors and Convention Bureau, Dr. Frazier has been involved in the development of "Frontier Texas!," a historical attraction and visitors center complex located in Abilene. He has become active in the field of heritage and cultural tourism and has served as a speaker and consultant on the subject.

When not teaching or serving on civic boards, Dr. Frazier is also Executive Director of the McWhiney Foundation, a Not-For-Profit organization dedicated to promoting history education. In that capacity he is involved in the management of a history publishing company, research center, and the Buffalo Gap Historic Village, an outdoor living history museum near Abilene. For fun he is an enthusiastic heritage tourism consumer and can be found prowling battlefields from the Llano Estacado to the beaches of Normandy.
